Atomic Mass Unit


The atomic mass unit (symbol amu) is also called Dalton. It corresponds exactly to 1/12 of the mass of the atom of Carbon 12, which contains 6 protons and 6 neutrons. As a unit of mass, it is used to express the mass of atomic and subatomic particles.
